MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota Timberwolves ended the 2016 preseason schedule games with a 109-74 rout of the Charlotte Hornets in front of 9,708 fans on Thursday night at the Target Center.
Shabazz Muhammad led Minnesota with 17 pointsout. Without 2015 Rookie of the Year Andrew Wiggins, Wolves coach Tom Thibodeau inserted former Golden State Warriors small Forward Brandon Rush in his behalf for starting five.
Aside from Muhammad there are 5 other Wolves players who played well and made double figures. Last year's ROY awardee Karl-Anthony Towns got 15 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and a perfect 7-out-of-7 from the free-throws.
Last year's all stars slam dunk and back to back Champion Zach LaVine netted 15 points and 5 boards. Rush had 14 points and a perfect 4-out-of-4 from downtown. Nemanja Bjelica had 14 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.
"Brandon (Rush) is good he fits for starters and he fits off the bench, a sort of the same role in GSW when Barnes (Harrison) got hurt last year he step in. The best thing is he's intelligence he plays smart he knows when to pass he knows when to shoot" Thibodeau statement during post game press conference.
Team Captain and ace point guard Ricky Rubio contributed 10 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals.
Only Marco Belinelli scored double figures for the losing Hornets, finishing with 10.
Before the game started the NBA honored LaVine for his 2015-16 season monthly NBA Cares Community Assist Award and he received the David Robinson Plaque.
LaVine was the recipient of the award in April for his work with the Metro Deaf School. LaVine choose Flip Saunders to receive the $10, 000 as charity of his Choice.
The Timberwolves ended the preseason games with 5-2 win-loss record, while 2 wins and 5 losses last year.
The Timberwolves will start the 2016 -17 regular season on the road against Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday October 26th and on Saturday October 29th at Sacramento (Kings).
And on Tuesday November 1st The Timberwolves will play the opening home game versus the Grizzlies.
