NBA -- Kings point guard suspended for 8 games

INDIANA -- Point guard Darren Collison will not suit for the Sacramento Kings for the first eight games of the 2016-17 NBA season, the league announced on Sunday night.

The suspension stems from a May 20 domestic violence incident involving Collison's wife at their Granite Bay home in California. Collison pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor domestic battery charge and was sentenced to 20 days in jail plus three years of informal probation.

The Kings support the action taken by the NBA and issued a statement saying, "domestic violence is a serious issue and directly contradicts with the values of the Sacramento Kings."

A 7-year NBA veteran, Collison appeared in 75 games for the Suns last season and averaged 14 points and 4.3 assists per. According to ESPN, Collison's suspension will cost him $380,324 in salaries.
