Expect a completely different Gerry Penalosa who will take on WBO bantam champ Jhonny Gonzales on August 11 in Sacramento for the 'World Cup' of Boxing.
According to sources, Freddie Roach's assistant trainer Eric Brown has been training Penalosa to throw leathers from the opening bell till the last round, or until Gonzales can handle it no more.
"You will notice in the fight that Gerry will not only be a defensive genius, but an offensive war machine as well," said a Wild Card gym observer.
Brown, according to the source, has been training Penalosa to throw not less than 60 punches per round.
"And Gerry has now been throwing close to 100 punches per round."
Brown is also instructing Penalosa on how to attack with power punches.
"The drill they are doing are just awesome. I don't know how Gerry does it, but it's just eye-popping," the source added.
