NBA -- Hawks soar past Kings behind Millsap's 23

SAN FRANCISCO -- With Paul Millsap doing much of the heavy lifting, the Atlanta Hawks escaped with a close 103-97 win over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night at the Philips Arena.

Millsap tormented the Kings with 23 points, including a jumper that gave Atlanta a four-point spread with 15.7 seconds left to play. The 6-foot-8, 253-pound power forward also grabbed 16 rebounds.

"It wasn't pretty. It was pretty ugly," Millsap told NBA.com. Nonetheless, the Hawks improved to 9-5 for the season.

The Hawks were outworked off the boards, 52-45, and lost the assists battle, 26-23. But Atlanta pulled out the win with a 22-18 fourth quarter burst. Dennis Schroder added 22 points and six assists for Atlanta while Al Horford added 17.

DeMarcus Cousins paced Sacramento with 24 points and 12 rebounds while Rudy Gay had 14. The Kings, who dropped to 4-8, also got 13 points from Kostas Koufus and nine points and nine assists from Rajon Rondo.
