LAS VEGAS--A star is born!
Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista established himself as a force to reckon with in the superbantam division with a definitive unanimous decision win over Sergio Manuel Medina following their thrilling 12-round rumble for the WBO superbantam mandatory status.
Dave Moretti scored the bout 116-108, CJ Ross saw it 115-109 while Paul Smith penned the bout 115-109 all in favor of the power-punching Bohol fighter, who never seemed to loss stamina all throughout the contest.
Bautista scored knockdowns in the sixth and eleventh rounds, but also had to pick himself up from a knockdown in the seventh in what was a great fight between two warriors.
Bautista out-hustled and was clearly the more conditioned fighter, maintaining his pressure from the opening to the last round to earn the judges' nod.
With the win, Bautista improved his record to 23 wins with 17 KO's, while Medina tasted his first defeat in 29 fights.
The two fighters hugged each other after the fight.
