NBA -- Gasol, Bulls ready to be tested By Kevin Gonzalez PhilBoxing.com Tue, 30 Sep 2014 ![]() CHICAGO -- As expected, the Chicago Bulls' Media Day, which was held Monday afternoon at their newly constructed Advocate Center across the street from the United Center, opened with high expectations. When questions were raised on where the Bulls stand against Eastern Conference contenders and midwest neighbors the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers, Derrick Rose and his teammates expressed optimism that they can measure up against the best teams in the league. Among those expected to give the Bulls extra boost is veteran big man Pau Gasol, a two-time NBA champion and former Los Angeles Laker who chose Chicago as his next destination this past summer. Gasol spoke confidently about his new team's chances as the 2014-15 NBA season beckons. ?We need to show we have what it takes and the only way to do so is in games. Throughout the season, with time and hard work, we need to show we have what it takes to get to that championship level.? The Bulls have failed to make it past the Eastern Conference Finals since Michael Jordan won his last championship in 1998. That could potentially change this season as the Bulls have, arguably, their most talented roster since Jordan left in retirement. Gasol, a 4-time All-Star, is also known for his charitable work, having participated in UNICEF's and the NBA?s ?Unite For Children, Unite Against AIDS Campaign? since its inauguration in 2006. He is also active in several other charities, hospitals and non-profit organizations. When asked whether he would continue such admirable work in Chicago, Gasol quickly responded: ?Of course. I just need to see what hospitals there are in Chicago, what work they do, how they plan to do it and what they need. It?s an important duty of mine.? Gasol possesses a massive wealth of experience and maturity required by championship-contending teams. Whether or not he is the last piece of the Bulls puzzle remains to be seen, but his passion and smarts for the game will surely endear him to Bulls fans beginning in the 2014-15 season.
