PACQUIAO SHINES IN BASKETBALL
By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Thu, 04 Sep 2014

Between the photo sessions and seemingly endless press conferences and tours to hype the upcoming November 2014 blockbuster in Macau between Manny Pacquiao (58-5-2, 38 KO) and Chris Algieri, (20-0-9, 8KO) of Huntington, New York, the Filipino congressman simply enjoys himself playing his favorite game - basketball.
Pacquiao has been playing basketball with his friends and basketball group at the Franklin High School gym in Echo Park, a few miles northeast of the famed Wildcard Gym since he hit town.
Last night and tonight were no different. Pacquiao can be seen having lots of fun with the boys that usually play with him at the gym. He played a whole game and then stayed at the sidelines afterwards coaching a team that played after his game.
One thing that really stands out is the fact that he likes to play the point guard position. He has a nasty three point shot that almost always draw a cheer from the folks hanging out to watch him play. When he makes the three pointers a loud cheer explodes from the kibitzers and Pacquiao acknowledges them by raising his hand just like the NBA stars. Pacquiao?s three point shooting ability will be something to watch for when the PBA season starts in a few weeks time.
Before Pacquiao hit the court, this writer fitted him with a brand new custom made ?basketball mouthguard? to reduce the impact of possible unforeseen injuries that occur in basketball games.
Pacquiao and Algieri will meet the LA press corps tomorrow (Wednesday, PST) at the Hyatt Century Plaza Hotel. This is the first time he will be present in an LA press tour at this hotel. Top Rank usually held the Pacquiao press tours at the fame Beverly Hills Hotel a handful of miles west of the Hyatt Century Plaza.
