Pacquiao has hidden PBA storyline? By Recah Trinidad PhilBoxing.com Mon, 14 Jul 2014 CAN Manny Pacquiao, winner of a record eight separate world boxing titles, aspire for a Grand Slam in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA)? Don?t ask coach Tim Cone of the fabulous San Mig Coffee team, the newest member of the PBA Grand Slam Club. Cone, more than any other active coach in the PBA, knows the wringing demands of calling the shots in the pros. ** Actually, he, more or less, has an idea of how Pacquiao?s foray in the PBA could shape up. But Cone has refused to offer a categorical reply. Not that the question is tight and tricky. Maybe Cone had wanted to suggest the incursion by the Filipino boxing superhero in the PBA won?t be an easy one. ** But does Mr. Cone think Pacquiao would be able to at least spring a surprise? ?I just think that, you know, I think people don?t know how good the NBA is. The NBA is really good, the coaching there, the playing there, it?s really good. It is much better there than we can ever imagine,? Cone told Camille Naredo of ABS-CBN News.com. How does that relate to Pacquiao?s stint in the PBA? ?I just think that, for us here, I think people don?t realize how good the PBA is, how good these players are, how good the coaching is, how much strategy, how much discipline and effort go on,? Cone explained. ** How could Pacquiao fit into the picture? ?You bring a guy, an iconic figure like Manny Pacquiao and bring him into the league and I think people will realize just how good the league is,? Cone said. But, honestly, how could Pacquiao make the PBA look good? For instance, if it were in boxing, Pacquiao, with his superb skills and super status, could surely push the opponent to the limit and create a classic contest. ** With Pacquiao?s limited experience in basketball and with only very few remaining quality players to choose from, does coach Cone hope for the national boxing hero to be able to put up a competitive pro squad? ?It will be an eye-opener for everybody,? Cone said. Please elaborate. ?It will be neat, honestly!? Neat as Pacquiao?s cold-blooded second-round stoppage of Ricky Hatton, or numbing like Juan Manuel Marquez?s lights-out knockout of Pacquiao in December 2012? No reply.
