Ronda Rousey knocks out Alexis Davis in 16 seconds in UFC 175

PhilBoxing.com

Sixteen seconds ? that is all the time it took for reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Bantamweight champ and Mixed Martial Arts? biggest star, Ronda Rousey to get the job done against challenger, Alexis Davis Saturday night in UFC 175 in Las Vegas.

Rousey, the popular and undefeated champion used her boxing skills in setting up a successful judo throw against Davis in the Octagon of the Mandalay Bay Events Center in the early moments of the first round. She then pummeled her challenger with unanswered punches which prompted the referee to quickly halt the fight.

The 27 year old former US Olympian and bronze medal winner for Judo earned the 10th straight win of her career and her 9th stoppage in the first round ? making her one of the most dominant players of the game.

?I grapple and wrestle four days a week altogether so I have more to catch up on my striking, so I do that the most.? said Rousey whose popularity will bring her to Hollywood with films like ?The Expendables 3? which is due this August and ?Fast and Furious 7? next year.

?I think I can. I got hit once. I can get better.? was her reply to Joe Rogan?s comment in their post-fight interview that ?You can?t get better than that.?

Rousey admitted that she is due for a planned knee surgery but will gladly fight next month in UFC 176, if her coaches allowed her to.

That is a scary thought for her future opponents who would want to test her mettle.

WEIDMAN DECISIONS MACHIDA

In the main event of the night, another undefeated American fighter and champion was triumphant in defending his belt and maintaining his perfect record in the Octagon.

Chris Weidman, of New York, scored a Unanimous Decision in 5 rounds over his game challenger, former light heavyweight champion, Lyoto Machida.

Weidman dominated the first three rounds with his punches, kicks and ?take downs? but Machida of Brazil, came back to life in the 4th to make it an exciting fight going to the 5th and final round.

Machida was able to hurt Weidman in the 4th and in some moments of the 5th, but the champion?s early lead and his ground skills proved to be too much for him to overcome. The scores were, 49-45, 48-47 and 49-46 in favor of the champion.

Weidman improved his MMA record to 12 ? 0 and is successful in the 2nd defense of his middleweight belt that he won from longtime champion, Anderson Silva last year.
