NBA East Finals -- Pacers stave off elimination, force Game 6 By Adeline Deladisma PhilBoxing.com Fri, 30 May 2014 INDIANAPOLIS -- With their backs against the wall in a "win or go home" mode, the Indiana Pacers pulled out a victory in front of 18,165 Bankers Life faithful, beating the Miami Heat 93-90 in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Heat were up 3-1 in the series Wednesday night the two-time defending champions were looking at an opportunity to advance to the Finals for the fourth time in as many years. The Pacers jumped to an early lead, as high as 8 in the first quarter and led 22-16 after 12 minutes of play with balanced scoring from the starting line up. The Heat tightened up and tied it at 24 at 9:24 in the second. There was a slow back and forth for the first two quarters with each team making short runs. The Heat had the last run of the quarter and led by 9 at the half. Then Paul George woke up. There was a 16 point swing during the third quarter in favor of the home team. He scored 10 points of the Pacers' 30 in that quarter alone. He continued his rhythm in the fourth quarter, adding 19 more points. The Heat made it a game in the fourth period, slicing an 11-point deficit to 1, but the Pacers stood their ground. Lebron James was plagued by uncharacteristic early foul trouble, notching his third of the game by midway through the second quarter. After picking up two fouls early in the second half, he left the game and wouldn't return until the fourth quarter. He played only 24 minutes in Game 5 and, in his words, was "unable to put [his] imprint on the game." George finished with 37 points, just two shy of his playoffs record of 39. He also added 6 rebounds and 6 steals in 45 minutes of play. The Heat have a chance to close out at home when the series returns to Miami on Friday night.
