NBA Playoffs - Wizards stave off elimination with Game 5 rout By Adeline Deladisma PhilBoxing.com Wed, 14 May 2014 INDIANAPOLIS -- The Washington Wizards are not going down without a fight. Facing elimination with a 3-1 series deficit, the Wizards outworked the Indiana Pacers with a massive 62-23 rebounding edge en route to a 102-79 Game 5 rout of the Indiana Pacers Tuesday night at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Marcin Gortat, Washington's 6-foot-11 center made 13 of 15 goals for 31 points. The 30-year old veteran also pulled 16 rebounds as the Wizards escaped elimination and set the stage for a Game 6 Thursday night (Friday AM in Manila) at the Verizon Center in Washington. Wizards guards John Wall and Bradley Beal turned in 27 and 18 points, respectively. Wall also had 5 boards and 5 assists while Trevor Ariza added 10 for Washington, which broke Game 4 wide open with 31-point third quarter that turned their slim 45-38 halftime lead into a 76-52 bubble entering the final period. "They're not ready to go home, number one. As we talked as a group, we came in here and won Game 1, they came into our place and convincingly won Game 3, but the other two games were tossups. It was close to being 2-2 or 3-1 the other way. We weren't that far away and I wanted our guys to realize that," Wizards coach Randy Wittman told reporters in his postgame presser. David West finished with 17 and 6 boards for the Pacers but Paul George was held to 15 on 5-for15 shooting from the field. Center Roy Hibbert was a non-factor with 4 points and 2 rebounds. As good as their offense was, Washington's defense was terrific and held the Pacers to 39 percent from the field (30 of 77 field goals). "We have to play the best games of our lives. We have no more room for mistakes... It's going to be a tough game at home," Gortat said of the upcoming Game 6. (AD) Photo: John Wall defies two Pacers defenders in this bit of Game 5 action.
