BREAKING NEWS: CASIMERO LOSES TITLE AT THE SCALES By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Fri, 02 May 2014 ![]() John Riel Casimero is no longer the IBF junior flyweight champion. The 24 year old form Ormoc City was at 113.25 lbs in his first try at the scales and opted not to go down further in weight. The title will be vacant if Casimero (19W (11KO's)-L2) wins but challenger Mauricio Fuentes(16W (10KO's)-L2) of Colombia (right of photo) can win the belt if he beats Casimero. This was supposed to be the fourth title defense and second defense here in the Philippines, his first in Cebu. for the Omega gym boxer. Last October in Makati City, he stopped Felipe Salguero of Mexico in 11 rounds. The 24 year old Colombian's last fight was a fifth round TKO win over Gustavo Cortez in his hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia.The latest rankings of IBF has him at number 12 with top two slots vacant. There are four more bouts on the undercards. Casimero and Promoter Sammy Gello-ani apologized to fight fans and members of the media for losing the title. They plan to fight in a heavier division.
