PAGARA BROTHERS VS. INDONESIANS: WEIGH IN AND PRESS CONFERENCE By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Fri, 11 Apr 2014 Jason "El Ni?o" and "Prince" Albert Pagara, Indonesians Rusmin Kie Raha and Skak "Checkmate" Max, the ALA Gym boxers and their opponents paid a courtesy call to this writer at the Office of the Maasin City Mayor Thursday morning. The press conference followed at the Maasin Bus Terminal attended by the Associated Media of Southern Leyte. GAB official Lando Mendoza and referee Ben Necessario also graced the occasion. Jason, the current WBO international light-welterweight champion proudly showed his belt. "I would sometimes bring the place of Cagayan de Oro City in my bouts because my father was from CDO," he answered. "And we trained also in the highly urbanized city in Misamis Oriental." Jason admitted that they learned the basics of boxing in Maasin thru their father Reynaldo in Lib-og, Maasin City. He disclosed to me he will also carry the place of Maasin City in future fights. Albert said that he can't help but stop opponent early if an opportunity comes in. "I have to take advantage of any opening that might occur in any round to knock out my foe, otherwise he might stop me first." This was his reply to the question on knocking out his opponents in the first round with the audience never had seen enough of the action. Raha and Max through their manager-interpreter promised to knock out the Pagara brothers. But the ALA standouts replied: "Let's see who will be knocked out." Trainer Michael Domingo hinted about Jason's next fight. "He will face a Mexican boxer in Dubai this coming June for the WBO inter-continental championship," said the ALA mentor. "Albert is slated to vie for an Asian title fight." But Mr. Lando Mendoza of GAB said that this is not going to be a tune up fight for the Pagara brothers. For they have to win these fights or else the scheduled championship fights will be in jeopardy. "These Indonesian opponents are not patsies," cautioned Mendoza. "They come here to prove something that they can fight and win." Friday morning will be the motorcade and in the evening will be the fight Maasin Pride V. It has caused a stir among Maasinhons especially boxing enthusiasts. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Maloney L. Samaco. |
