SHUMENOV DEFENDS TITLE IN DECEMBER AT ALAMODOME

PhilBoxing.com

Shumenov.
WBA and IBA Light Heavyweight World Champion Beibut Shumenov of Shymkent, Kzakhstan (13-1-0,8KO) who now makes Las Vegas his home, will defend his WBA and IBA light heavyweight titles against a fellow European, undefeated Tamas Kovacs (23-0-0,14KO) of Galantz, Slovakia.

The world title fight will be one of the three title fights supporting the Marcos Maidana-Adrien Broner slugfest at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, Texas on Dec 14th aptly dubbed by the promoters, Golden Boy Promotions as the ?Danger Zone?.

The event will be shown live on ShowTime.

Shumenov won this first world title (IBA Light Heavyweight Crown via a TKO against American boxer, Byron Mitchell (27-4-1,22KO). The American boxer was done 2:58 in the 4tth round.

The IBA crown won by Shumenov was considered a ?minor? crown by many pundits, but never-the-less, it was a legitimate title. The best part about that win and the most impressive about it was that it was won during his 7th professional fight. Not too many has done the same.

After his IBA victory, Shumenov challenged Gabriel Campillo (22-6-1, 9KO) of Madrid, Spain to unify the WBA and IBA Light Heavyweight titles at Astana, Kazakhstan. Shumenov lost the fight via a majority decision with the judges scoring 113-113, 114-113 and 115-111 for Campillo.

Five months later, a rematch was made at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas. This time Shumenov avenged the only loss of his career by winning via a split decision with the judges scoring 117-111, 115-113 and 111-117.

Following his victory against Campillo, Shumenov racked up four consecutive wins in defending his titles, beating his opponents, twice by KO and twice by UD. First he beat Vyacheslav Uzelkov (28-3-0,17KO) by a UD in July 2010, then won via a 6th round TKO over William Joppy (40-7-2.30KO) followed by a 9th round TKO over Danny Santiago (32-6-1, 19K0) and a UD over Enrique Ornelas (34-8-0, 22KO) in his last fight held June2, 2012.

Although Shumenov has not fought in a while, he confided to the author, after fitting him with mouthguards for the fight in December, that there is no concern about his long lay off as he constantly train and keep in shape even when he is not fighting.

?I am excited to be back in the ring and to compete on such an amazing event,? said Shumenov. It?s been a long time for me and I am hungry to beat Kovacs in an impressive style and retain my titles.?

The fight against the undefeated Kovacs should be an exciting and action pack battle if Kovacs chose to engage because Shumenov is known to be a fighter who comes to win his battles regardless who is in front of him.
