FULL WEIGHIN REPORT FROM LAS VEGAS By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sat, 12 Oct 2013 Las Vegas, Nevada -- Top Rank Promotions and its promotional partners, Zanfer Promotions of Mexico, Wynn?s Casino Resort, Marquez Boxing and Tecate Beer held the official weigh?in moments ago for the fighters in tomorrow?s big fight at the Thomas and Mack Events Center inside the UNLV campus. The weigh-in was held at the famed Encore Theater at the Wynn, Las Vegas. Featured in the main event are the conquerors of Filipino boxing icon, Manny Pacquiao-Timothy ?Desert Storm? Bradley (30-0-0, 12KO) of Cathedral City, CA and his challenger, the aging but still red hot Juan Manuel ?Dinamita? Marquez (56-6-1, 40KO) of Mexico City. Bradley, the WBO Welterweight champion who will be defending his WBO title, came in at 146 lbs. Forty year old Marquez, who is gunning for his 5th division title hit the scales at 144.5 lbs. Purses: JM Marquez- the challenger is guaranteed 4 million dollars + 2 million dollars from other sources like the Mexican TV rights. Tim Bradley - the Champion is guaranteed 4.1 million dollars, a purse far less than the $5 million he made when he was the challenger against Manny Pacquiao in June 2012. Both fighters may make more depending on the PPV sales which is expected to generate a very decent amount. Top photo: Orlando Salido (R) and Orlando Cruz (L) weighed in. Bradley and Marquez. Lomachenko and Ramirez. Lone Filipino fighting on the undercard Jun Doliguez on the scales. For the first supporting main event: Orlando Cruz (20-2-1, 10 KO) of San Juan, Puerto Rico was a sizzling 125 lbs. His opponent, former world champion Orlando Salido (39-12-2, 27KO) of Ciudad Obregon, Mexico weighed in the same, 125 lbs. Cruz is the first openly gay boxer to fight for a title. His fight against Salido will be for the vacant WBO Featherweight title. A victory for Cruz will have a far reaching social significance for the LGBT community particularly in terms of ?tolerance?. Purses: Oscar Salido guaranteed $100,000; Oscar Cruz, $65,000. For the second supporting main event and perhaps the most intriguing for the evening, ex-Olympian and two-time gold medalist Vasyl Lomachenko of Odessa, Ukraine who will be making his ?pro debut? against a wily veteran Jose Ramirez (25-3-0, 15KO) of Mexicali, Mexico hit the scales at 125 lbs. Ramirez weighed-in at 126.5 and will need to re-weigh in two hours or less. How a fighter on a supposedly ?pro debut? gets to be matched against a veteran of 28 fights and live on HBO PPV for 10 rounds can boggle anybody?s mind. But this is boxing and that?s just the way it goes. But more than that, if Lomachenko wins tomorrow, he may be fighting for a world title in his second fight in the US in early 2014. Not too many boxers are afforded such luxury. That in essence says so much about the value of an ?Olympic gold medal?. According to Anibal Miramontes of FightFax, Lomachenko technically will not be fighting his ?pro debut?. FightFax says that the ex-Olympian has had 6 fights wherein he was paid. (He fought and won as a ?semi-pro? against Samuel Maxwell twice, Charley Suarez, Albert Selimov, Domencio Valentino, and Samat Bashenov As per FightFax, getting paid for his fights, no matter if the promoters declared the fights as ?semi-pro level? make Lomachenko a pro boxer. Technically then Lomachenko?s fight on Saturday is not really his professional debut as a fighter as it was made to appear by the promoters. But it is a ?pro debut? in the USA. Purses: Lomachenko in his ?pro-debut? is guaranteed $100,000 while Ramirez goes home with $25,000. Light Heavyweight Sean Monaghan (18-0-0,11KO) Mineola, New York - 174 lbs. Anthony Caputo-Smith (14-1-0, 10K0) Kenneth Square, PA 175.5 lbs. This fight will be for the WBC Continental America Light Heavyweight title and will open the PPV fights on TV. Purses: Monaghan is guaranteed $60,000. Caputo-Smith: $20,000 Other Results Kemny Abril, Rochester, NY (14-6-1-1,7KO)----- 146.5 lbs Brad Solomon, Lafayette, LA (20-0-0,8KO)------- 146 lbs Eric Watkins Morgantown WV 10-4-1, 4KO)------175 lbs Trevor McCumby Chicago IL 12-0-0, 10KO------- did not weight in and will do so later Alberto Herrera Riverside, CA 9-9-1,8KO--------- 147.5 lbs Mikael Zewski TroisRivieres, Canada 20-0-0,15 KO??.147.5 lbs Giovanny Caro Mexico City 23-13-4, 19KO------ did not weigh in and will do so later Jun Dolingues Agoncillo, Batangas PHL (16-0-1,12KO)------126 lbs.
