"FILIPINAS VS M?XICO: REYNOSA DE CAMPEONATO AGOSTO 24" IN M?XICO

PhilBoxing.com

The M?xico?U.S. border City of Reynosa on the Mexican side of El Rio Grande will play host to the exciting August 24 Canelo Promotions card "Filipinas VS M?xico: Reynosa de Campeonato" featuring tough Filipino boxers against hard-swinging Mexican fighters in WBC title fights.

In the past, Reynosa has seen its share of violence from drug cartels operating in the border town right across Hidaldo, Texas, so Canelo Promotions brings an exciting evening of boxing for the entertainment of a great city in much need of a break.

In the main event, 21 year-old Filipino Ernie Sanchez (14-3, 5 KOs) of General Santos City, will exchange leather with Mexican Miguel ?ngel "Ranita" Gonz?lez (19-5-1, 10) of Guadalajara, Jalisco, for the WBC International Featherweight (126 lbs) Title.

The Filipinos' last two outings have been unanimous decision wins at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in undercards of Manny Pacquiao fights. This time around, the Filipino will take on "La Ranita" (The Little Frog), a glory-hungry boxer who comes from three consecutive victories by way of knockout.

In the co-main event, Mateo Handig "The Warai Warrior," of Northern Samar in the Philippines, will trade blows world-ranked hard-hitting Mexican Ganigan "Zurdo" Lopez (22-5, 15 KOs) in a 12-rounder rumble for an international WBC Minimumweight (105 lbs) Title.

Originally, the Handig-Lopez fight was supposed to be an IBF Eliminator to select the mandatory challenger for IBF Minimumweight World champion Katsunari Takayama. Despite of Handig being the IBF #1 and Ganigan IBF #5, things with the IBF did not work out, so the attractive fight is now a WBC event.

"Yes, we tried the Ganigan Lopez-Mateo Handig to be an IBF eliminator. But at the end, the IBF did not approve it," commented Mexican matchmaker Eddy Reinoso of Canelo Promotions.

In another thrilling bout, Filipino Roilo "The Phoenix" Golez (14-10-1, 5 KOs) of Compostela Valley in Mindanao battles 25 year-old Armando "Cobra" Santos (11-3, 7 KOs) of Ciudad de M?xico for the WBC NABF Flyweight (112 lbs) belt.

The rumble will be Golez's third fight in he land of legendary Salvador "Sal" Sanchez. His prior wars were against former champs Edgar Sosa and Sammy Gutierrez losing, so this time "The Phoenix" wants to grab the big W.

"Cobra" Santos is tough but does not have the level of Gutierrez nor Sosa, so the chances of Roilo Golez increase exponentially.

The three Filipino boxers, Ernie Sanchez, Roilo Golez and Mateo Handig, are handled by "WBC Asian Promoter of the Year" Brico Santig, director of Highland Boxing of Baguio.

The night of boxing will also feature Mexican Minimumweight fight girl Nancy Franco (10-5-2, 4 KOs) of Guadalajara, Jalisco.

In addition, Ram?n "Inocente" ?lvarez (15-4-2, 8 KOs) of Guadalajara, Jalisco, will be gunning for the WBC USNBC welterweight title.

"Filipinas VS M?xico: Reynosa de Campeonato Agosto 24" is a production of Canelo Promotions in association with Grupo Modelo (Cerveza Corona) and ADX, broadcast LIVE on Fox Sports and Televisa Deportes.
