MONTIEL SAYS HE'LL KNOCK OUT GORRES; SHOPS FOR A NEW PROMOTER
By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Sun, 07 Jan 2007

Reigning Mexican WBO superfly champion Fernando "Cochulito" Montiel declare that he will knock out Filipino challenger Z "The Dream" Gorres when the two meet in Cebu on March 4 for the World Cup.
"I will make sure that Gorres does not finish the fight on his feet so I will not risk losing the title by bad decision," Montiel told Charles Winter of Box Noticias.
Montiel (32-2-1, 24 KOs), who was coming off a heart-breaking split decision loss against compatriot Johnny Gonzales last year for Gonzales' WBO Bantamweight title, said he would soon start training in Guadalajara, Mexico.
In the same interview, Montiel also dissed out Golden Boy Promotions for not properly taking care of him as his promoter and lament that Golden Boy sided with Gorres the fact that the fight ended up being held in Gorres' own backyard.
"Because my contract is ending, Golden Boy has now withdrawn its support on me and has now sided with Gorres, proof of it is this fight will be held in the Philippines," Montiel said.
Montiel is now looking to sign up with another promoter and is accepting offers. "I am open to listen to offers from (other) promoters who are interested to take me in," Montiel said. Montiel also emphasized that Golden Boy did not fulfill its contractual obligation to him because Golden Boy had failed to give him three fights a year as stipulated in the contract. Montiel only fought once last year, in May, against Johnny Gonzales.
Meanwhile, Gorres, together with "Boom Boom" Bautista and trainer Edito "Ala" Villamor will leave for the U.S. today to start training at Freddie Roach' Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles. The three are expected to hit back Cebu two weeks before the big event of March 4.
