Barbosa, Paragua, Antonio, Nouri remain on top in Bangkok Chess

GRANDMASTERS Oliver Barbosa, Mark Paragua, Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr., and Fide Master Hamed Nouri continued their winning run in the third round of the Bangkok Chess Club 2013 in Pattaya, Thailand, yesterday.

The fifth ranked Barbosa defeated No. 30 seed IM Kjetil Stokke of Norway, the eight ranked Paragua subdued No. 27 seed IM Manuel Bijaoui of France, the 12th ranked Antonio subdued No. 33 seed WGM Irina Bulmaga of Romania, while the 41st ranked Nouri upset No. 15 seed GM Gao Rui of China.

"Sana mahawakan nila 'yung momentum" said National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Chairman/President Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr.

Earlier, Barbosa defeated Thanatipanonda Thotsaporn and FM Teerapabpaisit Wisuwat of Thailand; Paragua bested Hj Azahari Md Aliuddin of Brunei and countryman FM Deniel Causo; Antonio outplayed Ron Hoffman of the Netherlands and Timo Tuomala of Finland and Nouri smashed Yutithamnon Surapole of Thailand and Gonzalez Gonzalez Alfonso of Spain.

Also with perfect three scores are no.24 seed IM Roy Saptarshi of India who shocked top seed GM NIgel Short of England; no.3 seed GM Jan Gustafsson of Germany who dealt no.28 seed IM Thejkumar M. S. of India; no.4 seed GM Humpy Koneru who blasted no.25 seed IM Max Illingworth of Australia; no.7 seed GM Hansen Sune Berg of Denmark who outplayed no.32 seed IM Akshat Khamparia of India; no.10 seed GM Zhao Zong-Yuan of Australia who nipped no.29 seed IM Maxim Lavrov of Russia; no.16 seed IM Wan Yunguo of China who beat no.35 seed FM Aguera Naredo Javier of Spain; no.18 seed IM Wang Chen of China who brought downed no.39 seed IM Daniel Contin of Italy; no.19 seed GM Attila Czebe Hungrary who outpointed no.58 Yeoh Li Tian of Malaysia and no.22 seed GM Ralf Akesson of Swewden who waylaid no.43 seed IM Mas Hafizulhelmi of Malaysia.

Meanwhile, no. 13 seed GM John Paul Gomez and no. 17 seed GM Darwin Laylo split the point with no.32 seed Ma Zhonghan of China and no.46 seed FM Juhasz Kristof of Hungrary, respetively to lead the huge group of 2.5 pointers.
