KING OF THE RING 2, THE BIG CHALLENGE AT PAGCOR AIRPORT CASINO ON SATURDAY

PhilBoxing.com

THE ring is all set for this year's "King of the Ring 2" dubbed as The Big Challenge at the PAGCOR Airport Casino in Paranaque City on Saturday.

In the main event, "King of the Ring 2" will feature world rated Randy Petalcurin (19-1, 14KO's) of GenSan risking his two world rankings and WBA Pan-Asian Boxing Association Jr. Flyweight title in a 12-round festival of knuckle against Rene Patilano (7-1-1, 3KO's) of Real, Quezon.

"Talagang pinaghandaan ko ang laban ito, hindi ko siya bibigyan ng pagkakataon," said the 22-year-old Petalcurin, currently ranked as WBA #4 and WBO # 8 Jr. Flyweight, playing under the banner of Thai sportsman Naris Singwangcha and well-known Australian man of boxing Peter Maniatis of Albert Park, Victoria.

"Tignan na lamang natin ang mangyayari bukas," added the 21-year old Patilano, who is sole defeat in nine professional fights was a razor thin split decision lost to JR Estremos at the Sofitel Plaza Hotel last July in Manila, a fight that could have gone either way.

If Petalcurin emerges victorious over Patilano, his chances of challenging the WBA or the WBO Jr. Flyweight world champion would increase notably and be considered a real threat to the reigns of accomplished 108-pound kings Roman Gonz?lez, Kazuto Ioka or Donnie Nietes according to WBC Asian promoter of the year Brico Santig of Highland Boxing of Baguio, who organized and promote this event along with Nelson and Arnel Gutierrez and Gerald Basig of Activate International Promotion and Wild Wing Entertainment Promotion.

The co-main event is a 12-rounder rumble between 26-year-old Filipino Ranel Suco (14-7-2, 6KO's) of Pagadian, Zamboanga del Sur, squaring off underdog 27-year-old Prell Tupas (8-18-4, 1KO) of Bacolod City for the vacant interim WBC Asian featherweight title.

Suco is coming off lost a 12-round decision to fearsome WBC Muay World Champion Jomthong Chuwatana in Kunming, China.
Chuwatana is one of the most destructive muay thai warriors in the planet, widely regarded as one of the best in the ancient thai art of fighting. Suco going all the distance toe-to-toe with the thai legend says volumes of his big heart and potential.

Tupas, on the other hand is coming off hard-fought split decision victory over Junard Postrano last December in Fort Bonifacio Manila.

In a clash of boxing survival, road warrior Roilo Golez (15-10, 6KO's) of Compostella Valley battles 22-year-old Wilber Andogan (9-11, 3KO's) of Besao, Mountain Province, for the interim WBC Asian minimumweight title.

The knockout victory of "The Phoenix" Golez over world rated WBC Asian champion Thongthailek Sor Tanapinyo of Thailand was one of the biggest upsets in Asian boxing in 2011.

Suco and Golez, also both playing under the baton of Thai promoter Naris Singwangcha.

Meanwhile, King of the Ring Muay Thai Fight Card is also gets going on Saturday featuring Renan Ramos oposite Melchor Canales, Tom Iriola against Dondon Bislig, and Fernando Venus against MJ Abrillo in the event also supported by event Hon. Cynthia Villar of Villar Foundation, Dona Ma. Theresa Pallado and CCTV-Global Tronics. -Marlon Bernardino-
