NBA PLAYOFFS - Spurs blast Jazz, take 2-0 lead
By Homer D. Sayson PhilBoxing.com Thu, 03 May 2012

The San Antonio Spurs followed its Game 1 rout of the Utah Jazz with another blowout, this time a 114-83 conquest in Game 2 of their series Wednesday night at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.
The Spurs, seeded No.1 in the Western Conference and No.2 overall in the playoffs behind the Chicago Bulls of the Eastern Conference, now have a commanding 2-0 lead in this Round 1 matchup. Games 3 and 4 shifts to Utah.
Just like Game 1, Game 2's outcome was never in doubt. A 3 by rookie Kawhi Leonard gave the Spurs a 13-4 jump at the 7:11 mark of the opening quarter. The Spurs then went on a 20-0 second quarter run to take a 53-28 halftime lead.
Seven Spurs scored double figures in points led by Tony Parker, who finished with 18 and 9 assists. Tim Duncan had a quiet 12 with 13 rebounds while Danny Green and Boris Diaw combined for 23 points. None of the Spurs starters played more than 28 minutes, which bodes well for this veteran-ladden squad.
San Antonio shot a terrific 57.3 percent from the field (47-of-82), 45.5 percent from 3-point range (10-of-22) and perfect from the free throw line, 10-for-10. The Spurs also had more rebounds 44-43 and more assists 28-16 than the overwhelmed Jazz.
"Is this series over? Over course not. We've had our struggles on the road. We were one of the better teams at home. We look forward to playing at our home floor. They won the first two games. They're supposed to. They're a good team, said Jazz guard Devin Harris.
Besides a stagnant offense that relied heavily on jump shots, the Jazz turned over the ball 15 times and shot poorly. They made just 31 of 90 field goals (34.4 percent) and went 1-for-6 behind the arc (16.7 percent).
Al Jefferson and Josh Howard led Utah with 10 points apiece but no other Jazz scored in double figures. (Homer D. Sayson)
