Bobby Pacquiao-Humberto Soto Title Eliminator on August 12

PhilBoxing.com

The much awaited return of Bobby Pacquiao (27-11-3 (12 KO's) to the ring following his sensational KO of Kevin Kelley at the famed Madison Square Garden in New York last June 10th is set. "The Sniper" will meet the Mexican sensation known as "La Zorrita", Armando Humberto Soto Ochoa. The fight is one of the three action-packed undercards for the WBC World Heavyweight title defense of Hasim Rahman against Kazakhstan native, Oleg Maskaev at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas on Saturday, August 12, 2006.

Bobby Pacquiao's victory over Kelley has been said to have allowed him to get off the shadow of his more famous brother, Manny. The scheduled fight with Soto which is billed by Top Rank as a "WBC Super Featherweight Title Eliminator", will surely validate that, particularly if Bobby produces the same sensational result as his last fight in New York where he KO'd Kelley with a crushing left hook to the midsection. BobPac's diadem, the WBC Continental Americas Super Featherweight title will also be at stake.

Bobby Pacquiao maybe in for a difficult fight considering Soto's record of 39-5-2 (23 KO's). Soto also has battle experiences with pretty tough fighters like Rocky Juarez, Oscar Leon, Ulises Duarte and Israel Gonzales. And, records indicate that Soto is not a very clean fighter either. In the Juarez fight, he was penalized twice, once each in rounds 9 and 10 for hitting behind the head. He also delivered a low blow during the Gonzalez fight. Low blows however, are certainly not new to BobPac. In some occasions such as in the Kelley fight, he too was warned by the ref for his "down under shots."

Other sluggers who will be seen in action under the Rahman-Maskaev title fight are WBC interim lightweight champion Jose Armando Santa Cruz and Freddie Roach's protege, ex-Olympian and super welterweight contender, undefeated Vanes Martirosyan.

On Tuesday, July 25th, all participants of the August 12th fight card billed by the promoters (Top Rank, Dennis Rappaport Productions, Caesars Palace and Wynn Las Vegas) as "America's Last Line of Defense" will be hold a workout for scribes and boxing buffs at the Pound-4-Pound Gym located in La Brea Avenue at the Wilshire District in Los Angeles.
