MAYWEATHER AND LINSANITY

PhilBoxing.com

In his twitter Floyd Mayweather posted: ?Jeremy Lin is a good basketball player. But all the hype is because he?s Asian.?

It drew a lot of condemnations from everywhere and he was branded as a racist. But the contentious undefeated boxer further commented, ?Do I regret what I said? Absolutely not. I stand by what I said and I meant what I said.?

Mayweather does a lot of things to sow controversy. His is a showbiz approach to gain the attention of the media and the boxing enthusiasts. He is not concerned on whom did he stomp his feet on.

Whether the disagreement breeds popularity or infamy, it does not matter for Mayweather as long as it translates to pay-per-view buys. This means more money for Money.

He has been hitting Manny Pacquiao not on top of the ring but in the press conferences and through social media. Now he is targeting at the newest NBA sensation.

The Associated Press described Lin as ?the most surprising story in the NBA.? The term Linsanity is already a very popular term. Magic Johnson commented that the excitement Lin has caused in the Madison Square Garden was not seen for a long time.

Forbes remarked that Lin made the cover of Time magazine the same number of times as Michael Jordan. He appeared on the second consecutive cover of Sports Illustrated, the third player to do so after Jordan and Dirk Nowitzki.

Nike and Adidas produced Lin-related sportswear to capture the market in China. Bloomberg News bannered him as the most famous Asian-American in the NBA. The Knicks began selling Lin's No. 17 jerseys and t-shirts and the sales and orders online increased more than 3,000%.

No less than NBA commissioner David Stern said, "I haven't done a computation, but it's fair to say that no player has created the interest and the frenzy in this short period of time, in any sport, that I'm aware of like Jeremy Lin has."

Sacramento Kings coach Keith Smart declared, ?He?s still the same humble guy. The guy has not changed a bit, which is real special for a young man.?

Truly, Lin?s attitude is the exact opposite of Mayweather?s.
