Purisima vs. Desabille in Digos on June 30

DAVAO City ? Two former top amateur boxers will both

be making their ring debut as a professional on June

30 at Capitol in Digos City of Davao del Sur.

Mini-fyweights Jet Lee Purisima of General Santos City

and Vinel Desabille of Panabo City will trade punches

in the main event of the ?Ring War in Davao del Sur?

boxing card.

Purisima is now under the stable of Rey Golingan, also

president of the Amateur Boxing Association of the

Philippines (Abap) General Santos City Chapter, while

Desabille, formerly a member of the Barangay Una

Panabo boxing team of Rep. Tonyboy Floirendo, is now

managed by Tony Dacer of Davao City.

?Parehong magaling ito si Jet Lee at Vinel, kaya

magandang laban ito,? said boxing promoter Zander

Khan, also known as Jose Abad Santos Municipal Mayor

Alexander Wangkay.

Khan, also a former popular singer-turned boxing

promoter is making his comeback in boxing.

The card, which will feature 10 pairs of

four-rounders, is held in celebration of the Araw ng

Davao del Sur with the support of Gov. Joseph Bautista

and Rep. Claude Bautista.

The fights will also be shown on cable TV boxing show,

Ring War under the production also of Khan.

The Mindanao Professional Boxing Assocation (Minproba)

headed by its president Victor A. Quiambao is also

supporting it.

80 AMATEUR BOXERS IN 'RING WAR' CARD

At least 80 amateur boxers from 10

municipalities of Davao del Sur will show their wares

in a 3-day amateur boxing tournament set on June 30 to

July 2 at the Capitol in Digos, Davao del Sur.

There will be eight different weight categories

according to comebacking boxing promoter Zander Khan,

a.k.a. Jose Abad Santos Mayor Alexander Wangkay.

The event, dubbed as the ?Ring War in Davao del Sur?,

is sponsored by Gov. Joseph Bautista and Rep. Claude

Bautista in celebration of the 39th Araw ng Davao del

Sur.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winning

teams.

Aside from the amateur fights, the first day will also

feature professional boxers from the Mindanao

Professional Boxing Association (Minproba) headed by

its president Victor A. Quiambao. ? Lito delos Reyes

EX-RP CHAMP VILLACURA IN A REMATCH WITH MANGANIP

Former Philippine mini-flyweight champion

Flash Villacura wants to avenge his early loss to

Jerry Manganip in their rematch set on June 16 at the

Almendras gym here.

Villacura, who is now handled by radio

commentator-turned boxing manager Alejandro ?Boy

Bilaan? Acojedo, lost on points to Manganip in their

first fight held early this year in Tagum City.

?I want to get even with him to prove that his win was

a fluke,? said Villacura in vernacular.

Villacura, also a former Philippine Boxing Federation

(PBF) title-holder. After losing to Manganip, The

27-year old Villacura then bounced back by scoring a

knockout win in his next outing.

Manganip of the Bernard Yu Stable from Butuan City,

however, said that he can still beat Villacura.

?Ipakita ko na dili tsamba akong daug sa iyaha,? he

said.

MINPROBA TO ELECT BOARD DIRECTORS ON JUNE 30

The Mindanao Professional Boxing

Association (Minproba) will hold its new set of board

of directors on June 30 at 4 p.m. in Digos City, Davao

del Sur.

According to Minproba president Victor A. Quiambao,

the new board will elect among themselves the

positions of chairman, president, vice-president,

secretary and treasurer.

?We need to elect these positions for the

corporation,? Quiambao said.

Minproba, composed mostly of promoters and managers in

professional boxing, wants to form a corporation to

promote boxing and revive the sport in the region.

Among those expected to attend are Rey Golingan of

General Santos City, Antonio Dacer, Mayor Zander Khan

of Jose Abad Santos, Engr. Rey Buenaventura, Vic J.

Adriano, Angelo Acojedo, Eusebio Almario, Pete Obero,

Engr. Geronimo Palermo, Raides ?Nonoy? Neri, Michael

Ong, Atty. Bangoy and Gov. Manny Pi?ol.

The meeting will be held before the start of the ?Ring

War in Davao del Sur? boxing promotion of Zander Khan.
