PE?ALOSA SET TO RE-UNITE WITH WAKEE SALUD! By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Thu, 25 May 2006 In a bid to be given yet another crack at a major world title, former WBC superfly king Gerry Pe?alosa has re-united with his former manager, Rex 'Wakee' Salud, with whom he had an acrimonious parting of ways in 1998 following a loss in South Korea. Salud, in an interview with this writer in Tokyo, Japan recently, informed that Pe?alosa has approached him and talked to him to be his manager again because the former world champ cited they are "lucky together." "Sabi ni Gerry sa akin, 'bakit patagalin pa yang kontrata, pirmahan na natin'," said Salud, who also expressed optimism he will be able to guide Pe?alosa again to the world title. "That's a done deal. I'm really going to Wakee again because I know he has what it takes to make me a world champion once more. We are lucky together," said Pe?alosa, in a separate interview with this writer. Salud and Pe?alosa had a well-chronicled parting of ways following the fighter's August 29, 1998 loss to Korean In Joo Cho, where Pe?alosa dropped a split decision to his foe. Pe?alosa had earlier expressed apprehension at fighting in Korea, citing its record for hometown decisions. Pe?alosa then hooked up with the highly-respected and well-loved lawyer Rudy Salud (not related to Wakee), who gave the fighter three opportunities to regain his old title, but Pe?alosa came short on all tries. In late-2002, Pe?alosa announced his retirement, only to be back again two years later. Since his return, he has racked up three victories, and is slated to see action next on July 2 against Gerson Guerero underneath the Manny Pacquiao-Oscar Larios duel at the Araneta Coliseum. "I am willing to help Gerry once again. Maybe this time, just as his business manager," Salud clarified. Although Pe?alosa is being managed on record by Marc Roces, a source from the Games and Amusements Board informed that the fighter-manager contract had not been submitted to their office.
