Long time Pacquiao sparring partner David Rodela suffers one punch KO loss By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sat, 01 Oct 2011 Costa Mesa, Ca. - Manny Pacquiao's long time sparring partner David "Dangerous" Rodela 15-4-3 (6 KOs) suffered his second consecutive defeat in a span of five months as he suffered a 5th round KO loss to lightweight prospect Luis Ramos Jr. 19-0 (8 KOs) of Sta. Ana, California. Rodela went down instantaneously from a left uppercut to his midsection from the unbeaten Ramos whom he traded punches with in the last four rounds of the fight. Rodela was determined to not be a walk over win for the prospect as he fought toe to toe rounds with him. But a dart like punch to the body ended the action in the 1:57 mark of the fifth and sent the Oxnard, California based fighter kneeling in the canvass in pain as referee Raul Caiz Jr. counted him out. The fight was the main feature of tonight's Solo Boxeo Tecate event which was held at The Hangar of the Orange County fair and Events Center in this southern part of the state. It was also televised on the Spanish channel Telefutura. This fight was supposed to take place as one of the undercards of the Abner Mares vs. Joseph Agbeko fight in Las Vegas last August but was postponed when Ramos was mugged and robbed by three men during an afternoon run in his hometown of Sta. Ana. He recovered from injuries sustained from that incident to carve out a spectacular one punch victory tonight and place his name in consideration for bigger fights in the future. For Rodela, this is yet another setback for the 29 year old who has not only been a spar mate of Pacquiao but a friend as well of the champ. He dropped his last fight prior to this against Lonnie Smith via a 6 round UD loss and was 1-3-1 in his last five outings. His lost tonight dimmed his chances of figuring out in world title competitions in the lightweight division. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Rich Mazon . |
