Freddie Roach arrives in RP!
By Virgi T. Romano PhilBoxing.com Thu, 27 Apr 2006
Well-known American trainer Freddie Roach arrived in Manila today with the hope of convincing Manny Pacquiao to reconsider his decision of skipping the US training for the July 2 bout against Oscar Larios.
Roach, together with Nick Khan, one of Pacquiao's managers, planed in at 5 am and immediately proceeded to the Discovery Suites where Larios is also billeted.
Larios had planed in Wednesday to help promote his upcoming fight with the Filipino lefty.
The 2004 Trainer of the Year had expressed optimism that Pacquiao would concede and will join him in his trip back to Los Angeles, California to start training for Larios.
?I?ll do anything to convince him to reconsider his earlier decision of skipping the training in the US,? said Roach. ?His fight against Larios is a tough one and he needs to be (again) 100% condition.?
However, in the event Pacquiao opts not to heed Roach's advice and stay firm on his decision, Roach just shrugged off his shoulder and said, ?there?s nothing I can do, but to have him train in Manila.?
Earlier, Roach and Pacquiao had agreed to start preparations at the Wild Card Boxing Club for three weeks, before heading back to Manila and set a training camp in Baguio City.
But last week, Pacquiao had a change of mind, and mentioned that he?s no longer keen on training in the US.
Roach immediately expressed some ?concern? about Pacquiao?s decision and had set a date to talk with the boxer once he arrived in Manila.
Tomorrow, Pacquiao and Roach will be answering questions, probably including his aborted training in the US, in a press conference together with Larios at the ABS-CBN headquarters in Quezon City.
