Gorres aspires world recognition in OPBF title tiff
PhilBoxing.com Wed, 22 Feb 2006
Z “The Dream” Gorres will finally have his dream realized when he climbs the ring on March 18, 2006 to vie for the vacant OPBF Super Flyweight championship againt the former title-holder, Waengpetch Chuwatana of Thailand at the fully-airconditioned Mandaue City Sports Complex.
At stake for the world-rated Gorres is not only the Orient-Pacific crown but the global recognition he will attain if proved victorious against the Thai hitman who boasts of a dangerous fight record of 23 wins in 32 fights with only 7 losses and 2 draws with 14 KOs.

“It will be a big drawback for Gorres should he fail to hurdle Chuwatana, especially now that he is on the threshold of breaking into the big fights in Las Vegas,” warns international promoter, Sammy Gello-ani who was himself present during the Cebuano’s last fight in the States.
Unknown to many, the young and amiable Gorres is still without a championship belt after five years of prize-fighting and nothing less than a prestigious World Boxing Council’s OPBF championship belt awaits to adorn his waistline when he challenges for the title next month.
The future looks bright for the 23 year old Gorres as he is already assured of another stint in the US on May 12, 2006 when he returns to Las Vegas to do battle with another Mexican at the Orleans Resort Hotel.
Promoter Gello-ani, last year’s SAC’s Sportsman of the Year, has assembled another boxing blockbuster promotion headlined by the two of the country’s hottest boxing prospects, Z Gorres and Czar Amonsot who will face separate Thai opponents as scheduled on March 18, 2006.
Aside from the OPBF title fight, a Philippine Flyweight championship will be contested between ALA boy, Rocky Fuentes and Wakee Salud’s prodigy Jojo Bardon.
Sale of tickets will soon be announced next week.
