SULAIMAN OVERWHELMED BY DONAIRE VICTORY
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 24 Feb 2011

World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman has been ?overwhelmed? by the stunning 2nd round knockout victory of NOnito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire over Mexico?s WBC and WBO world bantamweight champion Fernando ?KO-Chulito? Montiel at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas last February 19.
Sulaiman who immediately congratulated the newly-crowned champion from the Philippines said ?I was overwhelmed by the class, the hand speed, the power and the accurate counter punching of our new WBC champion Nonito Donaire.?
Sulaiman said he was amazed at how Donaire ?connected over Montiel's thrown right with a savage left to the jaw that dropped the former champion who had been in a class of his own.?
Sulaiman said Donaire ?has just joined the 50 year list of great WBC champions like Leonard, Ali, Foreman, Holmes, Duran, Chavez, de la Hoya, Hagler and Pacquiao himself among so many great ones of the past and present. The WBC is certainly extending our welcome to such a star, hoping that he continues his brilliant career in the bantam weight or other weight divisions.
The WBC president said that he is hoping someday ? to have the opportunity to personally present to him his green and gold WBC belt. Please accept my very best regards and my congratulations to the Philippines for one other boxing star, all who are placing strongly the name of the country, the Philippines, in the sports maps of the world.?
In the meantime, the Executive Director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission Keith Kizer told the Inquirer that Montiel ?has been suspended for 60 days? following his brutal knockout by Donaire.
Kizer added however, that the CT Scans were ?okay? and there was ?nothing abnormal, post stoppage.?
