MEXICAN WARRIORS READY TO REPRESENT MEXICO

PhilBoxing.com

Mexican fighters Alejandro Barrera and Pipino Cuevas Jr yesterday announced they are "ready to represent Mexico" as they battle it out against two of the biggest names in Philippine boxing.

Barrera, a cousin of legendary fighter Marco Antonio Barrera, will face popular Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista in the main event of this highly-anticipated card dubbed "Philippines vs The World" at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel grand ballroom.

"We had a very good preparation. We are here to represent Mexico's name," announced son of the legend Pipino Cuevas Jr, whose father is considered one of the greatest Mexican fighters of all times.

Cuevas will face Jimrex "The Executioner" Jaca in a ten-round bout on the undercard. Pundits expect a tough battle considering both fighters' long preparation for this fight.

"I am not going to predict anything. I will just do my best on top of that ring," said Jaca when asked of his prediction. Jaca, who took Juan Manuel Marquez to deep waters before losing to the Mexican idol by stoppage, went to Thailand to prepare for this fight, and capped it off with several weeks training at the ALA Gym.

The event will be aired by ABS-CBN on Sunday starting at 10AM, according to ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer.

Also seeing action is world-rated Milan Milendo, who will take on Jin Man Jeon in a 10-round shootout, while former world champion Florante Condes battles it out with Indonesian Sofyan Efendi.

Milendo, when asked of his reaction on a possible loss to the Korean, shot down the possibility, insisting that there is no way Jeon can win in the fight for which he has trained so hard.

Condes, who has joined the ALA Promotions in hopes of reviving his career, looked to be in shape, and seems happy now "that everybody has disappeared in my life," referring to his former manager Aljoe Jaro with whom he had a bitter split over money and managerial issues.

Meanwhile, the official weigh-in takes place starting 11AM today at the atrium of SM City-Cebu, said ALA PR chief Chad Canares.

NOTES. Popular and entertaining Jun Intor, by popular demand, has been added to the card as he faces Jaime Alin Jr in a 4-round tiff...One-legged Naozumi Tsuchiyama of Nagasaki, Japan trades bombs with Marlon Alta in another intriguing fight...If victorious, Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista has already been penciled to face Hector Julio Avila in Dubai on October 29, co-headlining with AJ "Bazooka" Banal...Its two thumbs up, according to the Mexican group, when asked about their accomodation and stay here in the country. Apparently uncowed by the hostage-taking which took place a few days ago, Barrera said the organizers have been fantastic. The group was then seen at the nearby Rudy Project sale taking place at an adjacent function room at the Waterfront Hotel, offering up to 75 percent discount on its products.
