GAB CHAIRMAN ERIC R.BUHAIN: LEADER, SWIMMING GREAT, CUM LAUDE

PhilBoxing.com

Young and full of dynamism. Genetically brainy. Achiever in so many fields and endeavors. Talented and a real sportsman par excellence. Determined as leader and well-meaning.

These are just but a few ways of the many description of Chairman Eric Reyes Buhain of the Games and Amusements Board. This important information via the web thru this writer is very vital, so his counterparts all over the world will have an easy conclusion as to whom to deal rightly in the Philippines if we talk about professional sports.

Being on top of the country's sporting agency, this is not the first time for Chairman Buhain to be in the field of the national bureaucracy. He dedicated years also championing the cause of all the amateur sports as the former Chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission which only ended after his appointment by Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to the GAB as its top honcho dated November 27, 2004.

Born gifted to a wonderful and proud parents, Buhain is a native of the province of Cavite, where most of the top bureaucrats of the country emanate from. His best among embedded personal assets stemmed from his ability to lead and sense of command to his subordinates. As one of his former employees at the PSC recalled, "Chairman Buhain is a determined leader and a no-nonsense performer, he always sees to it that all things are done for public service at the end of the day."

But I think the most interesting part of the Chairman's role hereabouts as an achiever, nothwithstanding that Lady Luck has made him the husband to a very young and promising Congresswoman from Batangas province the Hon. Eileen Ermita-Buhain and son-in-law to the Hon. Executive Secretary of the President of the Philippines Eduardo R.Ermita, is his one-of-a kind, remarkable swimming record that is enough to make him a legend. But before that, this workaholic GAB Chairman is a product of La Salle since his early education down to college where he earned his baccalaureate degree 1987-1991 La Salle University and in Philadelphia, USA for B.S. Finance as one among the top graduates having earned academic merit as CUM LAUDE.

Among his tremendous achievements in swimming are the following: 1988 Seoul, South Korea and 1992 Barcelona, Spain Olympics as the country's foremost delegate. He was also the swimming top favorite during the 1990 Beijing, China, 1986 Seoul, South Korea and 1992 Hiroshima, Japan Asian Games where he landed fourth and got the bronze medal respectively.

From 1985 -1993 in different swimming category representing the Philippines in all Asean venues he acquired for the country's prominence 15 gold medals, a silver and a bronze more than enough to conclude that this man is a swimming icon in the Philippines. His Philippine records are considered unsurpassed, thus, giving him the golden opportunity to lead some of the various top universities and colleges in Manila as coach and at the same time a name respected in the field of swimming.

Chairman Buhain's quest for the country's honor never stops; it only continues. He is recepient of the Philippines's most prestigious TOYM Award as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men in SPORTS. Philippine Sportswriter "Athlete of the Year", "SEA Games Coca-Cola Gold Award " as Best Male Athlete of the SeaGames all in 1991. 1989 Best male Athlete by The SeaGames Coca-Cola Gold Award, and in 1987 Philippine Sportswriter-Athlete of the Year and SCOOP Awards as "Athlete of the Year " unanimously.

So the world may know, this is Chairman Eric Reyes Buhain, the man full of vision and mission in life. As a matter of fact, I can sense that someday somehow, this tall, dark and perfectly handsome Chairman will occupy a much higher position in the top governmental bureaucratic set-up of the Philippines. With his leadership and consistency, I know the GAB and all its beneficiaries in the name of SERVICE will go many places.
