R.P. Girls Softball Team in need of funding By Eddie Alinea PhilBoxing.com Sat, 22 May 2010 A formidable Team Manila will represent the Philippines in the Asia Pacific Big League (16-18) girls? softball championships set July 8 to 15 in Bandung, Indonesia.Seven members of the RP Blu Girls are part of the Team Manila roster making the squad one of the strongest formed by the country in recent tournaments. The team?s stint, however, is still in a limbo as they have yet to pay the $3,000 entry fee for the tournament. The deadline of the payment is on June 1. Filomeno ?Boy? Codinera, president of the Manila Little League Charter, said that the team is prepared for the Asia Pacific tilt. ?Sa ngayon, wala pang pera ?yung mga dating nagbibigay ng donasyon dahil katatapos lang ng eleksyon,? said Codinera in yesterday?s SCOOP forum at the Kamayan Restaurant-Padre Faura. For his part, Manila Little League Charter chairman Robert Evangelista believes that they can collect the funds in time for the deadline now that the election storm is starting to subside. ?Naniniwala ako na matutulungan tayo ng Manila City government dahil si Mayor (Alfredo) Lim ay talagang tumutulong sa team lalo na?t mga bata ang mga kalahok,? said Evangelista in the ACCEL-sponsored forum. Julie Marie Muyco, Elvie Entrina, Riza Bernardino, Veronica Belleza, Melanie Macatangay, Ana Cariza Paghubasan and Marilyn Francisco comprise the RP Blu Girls team included in Team Manila. Other players of the team that won the Little League Philippine Series crown in Daet, Camarines Norte last April include Yrla Rojo, Nerissa Benjamen, Carol Banay, Erica Escanuela, Ivee Cojuangco, Bada Lao, Isabelle Gomez, Mariz Garde, Annalie Benjamin and Jessa Macaraig. Team Manila is coached by RP Blu Girls and Adamson coach Ana Santiago. Teams from Guam, Indonesia, Pakistan and China will compete for the title and the right to represent the region in the Big League Softball World Series set in August in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Team Manila came close to winning the Big League Softball World Series crown in 2008 but was nipped by Grand Rapids, Michigan in the final in extra innings.
