SUBIC, Olongapo City -- Bicolano Michael stopped Neco Magliquian in the third and final round of their semifinal round bout Wednesday to make it into the gold medal fight with Romblon B?s Reymark de Capiz in the flyweight division finals of the PLDT-ABAP Luzon Area boxing tournament here.
De Capiz forged the title showdown with Dasmarinas by impressively disposing off Rey Meneses in referee stopped decision in only one minute and .07 seconds of the opening round.

The finals in the four-division event of this Clusivol-backed tournament, one of a series of mass-based talent search program initiated by ABAP president Ricky Vargas and chair Manny V. Panglinan as part of the quest for the country?s first ever Olympic gold medal, were set Thursday night at the Subic Gym.
Others vying for top honors following a six-day action were La Union B?s Jovani Dulce who won over La Union A?s Joseph Casil and Sorsogon?s Norman Estradura, who ousted Jonji Maritana in the cotton weight class; Nueva Ecija?s Ariel Tibayan and La Union?s Jerusalem Galvez who both scored RSC wins over Sorsogon?s Jason Hilia and Zambales? Meanwhile, ABAP Executive Director Ed Picson exuded enthusiasm in seeing the association?s search for talent discovery heading in the right direction especially with PLDT providing needed support.

?We are encouraged by the rapidly growing interest in amateur boxing in every part of the country,? said Picson who will next chart ABAP?s Visayas and Mindanao area tournaments in the coming months.

Elmer Pamisa, a member of he coaching staff, was impressed by the result of the tournament, saying he had spotted no less than five up-coming talents that are capable of becoming members of the national youth training pool and develop into international-caliber fighters.

Among those who caught Pamisa?s prying eyes are pinwieghts John Mark Pajarito and Fernando Tacuyan and a pair of flyweights interpersonal of Dasmarinas and Neco Magliquian, who he assessed possess what it takes to succeed in the international arenas.
?Ang kailangan kasi ngayon sa international competition, hindi lamang pumuntos kundi laman ng suntok. Maya premium kasi ngayon lakas ng suntok na siyang tinitingan ng mga judges sa pag-score,? Pamisa said
