Porras defeats Sales in Magpet
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Tue, 06 Sep 2005
Bantamweight Glenn Porras, in only his sixth fight, did the unthinkable after he decisioned 41-fight veteran Mark Sales, the former WBF Asia-Pacific champ, in their 10-round fight headlining the Braveheart card last August 31 in Magpet, North Cotabato.
Sales came out strong in the homestretch, knocking down the 19-year-old Porras in the last round. But it was too little, too late as the local boy racked up points early enough to pull out a win.
In the chief support, light-flyweight Dennis Juntillano defeated Pingping Tepura of Cebu via unanimous decision. Tepura was downed twice, but was praised for his technical skills.
"Tepura is a good boxer. It's just a matter of conditioning him well," said North Cotabato Governor Emmanuel Pinol, who watched at ringside.
Also, mini-flyweight Tommy Terrado scored a unanimous decision over Cebu's Ricardo Albia, keeping his unblemished record to 5 wins with 1 knockout.
In the preliminary bouts, two other members of Team Braveheart who saw action scored impressive 1st round victories.
Light-flyweight Edrin Dapudong, Mlang's boy wonder, won over Romel Verdijo of Mangagoy, Surigao Del Sur via knockout. He now has a record of 5 wins, 0 loss, 2 kos.
Power-punching Rex pe?alosa, another light-flyweight, also scored a 1st round ko at 1:37 against Juaren Libres also from Mangagoy. Pe?alosa improved to 4 wins, 1 loss, 2 kos.
