Rey Bautista's Opponent On Aug. 19 Named!
By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Wed, 03 Aug 2005
Rey Bautista's opponent for his upcoming fight on August 19 in Stockton, California was finally named. BoxRec reported today that Bautista will take on Mexican-American Samuel Lopez, the reigning WBA Fedelatin bantamweight champion. Lopez, fighting out of North Hills, CA via Mexico City has a record of 16 wins with 6 KOs and 3 losses in 19 fights.
Bautista, the reigning WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight champion, goes into this fight undefeated in 16 outings with 12 knockouts.
The venue of the fight has not yet been selected. Earlier reports coming out of Stockton indicated that Stockton Ballpark, Stockton's new baseball park, was the first option that was considered.
James Grunsky, the promoter of the event, earlier said: "I talk to a lot of people around town, and many of them ask whether I would ever consider doing a card outside, especially at the new park. It's just going to give it a completely different atmosphere, and I decided to pursue it."
There was concern however, that using the new park for a boxing show may cause some damage to it.
Other venues considered were the Stockton Civic Memorial Auditorium and the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds in case the Stockton Ballpark would be called off.
