Dennis Laurente wins in Japan!
By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Wed, 03 Aug 2005
Former OPBF lightweight king Dennis Laurente won his fight last night at the famed Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. According to reports coming out of Japan through BoxRec.com, Laurente earned a hard-fought majority decision against the previously undefeated Yuki Yushizawa in a 10-round encounter. Two judges had given the nod to Laurente with scores of 98-93 and 96-95 while the third judge scored the fight a draw at 96-96.
The Para?aque-based Laurente, improved his record to 23-2-5 win-loss-draw with 12 KOs while Yushizawa, 20, fighting out of Kyoto, Japan, tasted his first loss in 13 starts.
The 28-years old Laurente, who held the OPBF lightweight belt from June, 2002 to March, 2005, can now look forward to avenge his defeat against reigning OPBF champ Chikashi Inada, also of Japan, who wrested the belt from him via a 12-round split decision win last March.
