MAYOL’S 5TH ATTEMPT AT TITLE THIS SATURDAY IN CHIAPAS, MEXICO
By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Wed, 18 Nov 2009

Rodel Mayol, the young man from Mandaue, Cebu called “Kid Rapido” will be attempting for the 5th time to win a world title. He will be fighting Edgar Sosa of Mexico for the WBC Minimum weight title on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico.
With the Pacquiao media frenzy buzzing at its crescendo since the Pacman snatched the WBO Welterweight crown from Miguel Cotto at the MGM at Las Vegas this past Saturday, nothing else seem to matter to the boxing media including those from the Philippines. But that is expected.
Thus, in all probability, not too many in the home country know that Mayol is again up for a title fight.
Mayol trained for the last several weeks at the Wildcard Gym. But, with the Pacman the only show in town when he trains there, guys like Mayol are left on the fringes. But be that as it may, Mayol indicated that he is more than ready for his big day on Saturday.
Mayol left on a red eye trip for Chiapas mid-night Tuesday. He informed that he should have been there earlier as he had a press conference to attend but apparently his plane tickets were not arranged until the last minute by Michael Koncz.
Koncz understandably was too busy with the Pacquiao fight to mind small time fighters like Mayol. But he could have easily delegated the task to someone so Mayol could be in Mexico as expected by the promoters.
Mayol will be in Chiapas with an assistant of Freddie Roach named Jesse and Jing Quijano, a former trainer from the ALA Gym. His wife Lira will be flying in on Friday to join the Team and assist anyway she can.
