Australian puncher Steven Marks is set to plane in on Wednesday, April 27 to challenge for the WBF Jr. Welterweight crown against reigning champ, Dindo ?Diesel? Casta?ares on April 30, 2005 at the Mandaue Sports Complex. Bringing with him a 12-9-2 win-loss-draw record, Marks will be accompanied by his trainer, David Hedgecock, and cornerman, Bob Jones. On the same Singapore Airline afternoon flight, WBF President Mick Croucher, boxing judge Ignatius Missailidis and Ian Spouce will be arriving for the highly anticipated showdown between these two well-matched protagonists. ?This is the biggest foreign contingent yet that arrived for this international fight I?ve experienced in all of my promotions,? informs promoter Sammy ?Don King? Gello-ani who is collaborating with the Mandaue Sports Development Commission headed by Cheryl Ouano to make this boxing extravaganza draw a lot of attention not only from local boxing fans but also national and foreign boxing aficionados alike. "Yes, the Australians are indeed coming. Steven Marks has told me he will shock the Cebu boxing fans when he takes on your hero Dindo Castanares," said WBF president Mick Croucher in an interview with this writer. To backstop this much-anticipated international fight are 6 local bouts headed by WBA Pan African champion Bert Batawang versus Eugene Gonzales of Manila, Donnie Nietes against Elmer Muyco, Cebu-based Boholano Along Denoy against Jun Eraham, Rock n? Rollen del Castillo against Eddie Villegas of Jimenez Stable from Cagayan, Robert Allanic versus Rolando Baclayo and on the opening bout, Jojo Intor versus Jomar Labiogo. Starting this Monday, tickets are available at USA Sports outlets in Ayala and SM malls and at the Mandaue City Mayor?s office at City Hall Mandaue.
