PACQUIAO WATCH: Pipe of peace By Edwin G. Espejo PhilBoxing.com Fri, 26 Jun 2009 Among the Indian tribes in America, I was told, one offers a pipe to smoke as symbol of ending war and making peace with their enemy. Among Muslims in Mindanao, warring tribal clans hold a kalilang ? a traditional festivity that could ran for several weeks to celebrate the dawning of peace. Michael Marley offered me his ?White Gorilla paw across the table? and half the share of his balut. Fine. Peace offering accepted. All great wars, after all, ended up in the negotiating table. Not that Mike and me are enemies. Far from it. All commentators in sports and politics, I believe, should be able to take as much punches as they could dish. For me, some I rolled over. Others I parry. Sometimes I counterattack. My instinct told me to wait what Mike has to say when I gave my rejoinder. Now that he opted to write finis to the episode, it brought an anti-climactic ending to what some Paclanders thought was shaping into a war of attrition. But an offer of peace must be reciprocated. To him, a bucket of Manny?s favorite beer, San Miguel Lights, and a generous serving of fresh thin slices of sashimi-grade tuna, newly unloaded from the fishing vessel. Not the treated vacuum-packed that one buys at the nearest seafood specialty house around Metro Manila. We could drink our hearts out until dawn. Then share some insights in the sleazy world of boxing, the red light district of sports as some are wont to say. Who knows, Marley may yet elicit some information from people in General Santos about who are making Manny their cash cow. Manny may yet pull a surprise and join us. Yes, this piece is also meant as an invitation. But sorry, Mike, I can?t afford your round trip ticket and accommodation. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Edwin G.
