LAPUT, SONSONA, CASIMERO UP AGAINST STRONG CHALLENGERS TODAY
PhilBoxing.com Thu, 28 May 2009
CEBU CITY--Ramie Laput of the American Boxing Academy (ABA) will figure in what is going to be the toughest test of his career when he defends his WBO Intercontinental superbantam title against former world champion Ratanachai Sor Vorapin of Thailand today at the New Cebu Coliseum.
The bout will headline the triple WBO regional championships dubbed as "Thursday Boxing" by co-promoters Sammy Gello-ani and Kokiet Panachiyarom of Thailand.
Today's event will be beamed "live" in Thailand, and will also be aired by Main Event.
Young boxing sensation, the undefeated Marvin "Marvelous" Sonsona, will go up against ex-world champ Wandee Singwancha in another 12-round tiff for the vacant WBO Oriental flyweight crown.
This will be a major step up in opposition for Sonsona, while Singwancha aims to put himself back into world title contention.
WBO Asia Pacific light flyweight champ Jhonreil Casimero, meanwhile, defends his title against Manila-based Ardin Diale of the Almario Stable.
This will be a highly-anticipated showdown between two well-conditioned diminutive fighters.
The three title bouts are expected to be give-and-take affairs, said promoter Sammy Gello-ani.
An exciting array of undercard fighters, including superfeatherweight prospect Anthony Marcial, is lined up to provide fireworks before the three main bouts.
