BANAL, AMONSOT HEADLINE 'PAGSUBOK' ON MAY 16
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Fri, 24 Apr 2009
ALA fighters AJ "Bazooka" Banal and Czar Amonsot are set to return to action on May 16 in non-title bouts at the Cebu Coliseum.
In a press conference on Wednesday evening at the Sugbahan Restaurant along AS Fortuna, ALA president Michael Aldeguer formally announced the event dubbed "Pagsubok" which will be covered by ABS-CBN.
Both Banal and Amonsot are coming off knockout victories last January 31 in Bohol in their comeback bouts after suffering losses in world title bouts.
This time, the two ALA fighters are hoping to put their career back on track as they face fancied rivals from Africa.
Banal, now campaigning as a bantamweight, takes on Mbwana Matumla, the "African Golden Boy" and the former IBO world superflyweight champion.
Amonsot, meanwhile, goes up against Morris Chule in the other ten-round non-title duel.
Aldeguer stated that should the two ALA fighters come out victorious, they will then be sent to the US for future fights.
Amonsot, however, will have to be cleared to fight in the US, although he has already been cleared by local doctors to return to ring action following his bloody fight against Michael Katsidis.
Also in the card is another rising ALA fighter Jason Pagara who will take on Hero Katili of Indonesia while Larry "Bon Jovi" Canillas faces Reman Salim of Bacolod City.
The rest of the card are as follows: Jun Intor versus Leonard Guardiano; Marjohn Macahilig versus Francis Lee Cutanda; Rocky Amonsot against Evelino Valleser; and Runel Casimero versus Reynaldo Boctot.
