Oliva defends MPBF crown vs Flores
By Edwin G. Espejo PhilBoxing.com Fri, 13 Feb 2009

GENERAL SANTOS CITY ? Unbeaten knockout artist Jether Oliva will make his first defense of the Mindanao Professional Boxing Federation light flyweight crown he won in December when he goes up against Rogen Flores on February 17 in Maranding, Zamboanga del Norte.
Oliva, who knocked out Rodel Tejares in two rounds in winning the vacant MPBF light flyweight crown held in General Santos City last December, will be up against a dangerous foe in Flores who holds a respectable 10-3 (win-loss) record with four knockout victories.
Flores is fighting out of Sammy Gello-ani Stable of Cebu City.
The 21-year old Oliva is a former amateur standout and is one of the brighter prospects to come out of General Santos City.
He is being handled by JC Boy Mananquil of Mananquil Stable.
Oliva totes an immaculate record of 11 wins with nine of those wins coming via abbreviated contests for an impressive 81.82 per cent KO victory.
He has sparred with the likes of former Florante Condes and World Cup gold medalist Harry Ta?amor while training at the ALA Gym in Cebu City.
Flores is fresh from a unanimous win over Roel Honor of Zamboanga City although he lost his last three fights prior to that victory.
Oliva is again expected to use his punishing body blows to register his 12th consecutive win and line himself for a possible campaign overseas.
JC Boy Mananquil said his ward has been offered a fight in Japan but said he believed Oliva has still to hone up his skills in the local fight scene.
