CANOY, MARCIAL IN NON-TITLE BOUTS IN ZAMBOANGA
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Tue, 10 Feb 2009

WBO Oriental featherweight champion Eric Canoy will headline an explosive card this Friday, Feb. 13, at the Zambonga City Coliseum when he collides with PBF no. 1 superfeatherweight Elmer Legaria in a 10-round bout topbilling the "Zamboanga Against the Philippines" boxing extravaganza.
The event is promoted by the Blue Stallion Promotions and Congressman Erbie Fabian to continue their quest of finding the next big name in boxing.
If successful, Canoy, who trained in Cebu under young trainer Pingping Tepura, is set to defend his title sometime in March in Thailand, revealed promoter Sammy Gello-ani recently.
The co-feature will pit WBO Oriental superfeatherweight champion Anthony Marcial against Butuan City's Jovy Merca in another 10-round encounter.
Marcial, undefeated in 12 fights, is coming off a first-round technical knockout over Vacharakrit Senahan to retain his regional title.
"We need to keep our fighters active, as we continue in our search for the next big thing in Philippine boxing," said Congressman Fabian, who is the acknowledged godfather of boxing in the region.
Another Zamboangueno fighter, Leclec Tanamor, goes up in an 8-round tiff with Jun Tasic of Butuan City.
The rest of the card pits Marlon Mabait against Rey de las Pinas, Marlon Canoy versus Freddie Martinez; and John Ray Gaspar against Reynaldo Buluan.
