BALUARTE DEFENDS TURF VS. INDON

PhilBoxing.com

MISAMIS Oriental is slowly positioning itself as one of the country’s boxing hotbeds down south and that aim will gain more ground with another international boxing next week.

Filipino Eusebio Baluarte, Jr. will defend his crown versus Heri Adriyanto of Indonesia for the WBO Asia Pacific youth junior welterweight crown in a 12-round battle at the Atrium of Limketkai Mall in Cagayan De Oro City.

It will be Baluarte’s first title defense since winning the vacant crown via a smashing first round knockout win over Thai Yai Sithsaithong April of this year at the MPSC Gym also in Cagayan de Oro.

The Bukidnon nativer Baluarte is undefeated in five fights and has knocked out five of his foes including a 10th round stoppage of the durable Jury Noda in a PBF welterweight title fight early this year.

Andrianto, who carries a record of 12-5-1 with 8 knockouts, will be in his second stint in the country. His first one was rather undistinguished as he lost via 3rd round stoppage to another CdO native Jason Pagara last May.

Andrianto has recovered from that loss by scoring a 2nd round TKO over compatriot Faisal Ali last July.

Dubbed “Rumble in MisOr, the Defense”, the card is ably supported by provincial governor Oscar Moreno and promoted by Leonil Lazarito of Bukidnon. Moreno, since bankrolling the successful VisMin Cup last year has supported several more boxing cards staged in his province.

Seeing action in the undercard is former Philippine super flyweight champion and one-time world title challenger Eric Barcelona against Brix “Bomb” Ray, a former bemedalled amateur standout.

Another super flyweight Rey Megrino will go up against Apol Suico, younger brother of OPBF lightweight king Randy Suico; William George will battle Lotlot Gaviola and a special attraction will pit Japanese Naozumi Tsuchiyama against Joy Trujillo in an 8-round welterweight clash.
