JULATON LOSES BY SPLIT DECISION AGAINST OLIVIO
By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Fri, 22 Aug 2008
Lemoore, CA: From the beginning, Coach Freddie Roach and Team Julaton knew that Ana ?The Hurricane? Julaton will be in one hell of a fight.
And, they were right!
Tonight at Tachi Casino Hotel and Resort, Julaton in her very short 6 fight professional career finally met her match. Julaton lost to Dominga Olivio of the Dominican Republic via Brooklyn, New York by a split decision. One judge scored it 77-75 for Julaton, the other 77-75 for Olivio. But the third judge gave it to Olivio via a 79-73 score which brought cat calls from the crowd.
With the victory, Olivio won the vacant WBC Women?s International Super bantamweight title.
From the beginning it was a very close fight with Julaton winning on the early part of the fight and Olivio catching up and passing Julaton at the end. The 77-75 score appears more appropriate as the fight was that close. One can only speculate what the third judge was looking at because he scored it to far off from the other two.
But such is boxing. You win one and you lose one.
Tonight is not just Julaton?s night. But to her credit, she left everything on the ring. That alone is good enough reason to know that she will be back.
Many fight fans who post comments in boxing websites criticized Team Julaton for putting her up this early for a title fight particularly against a boxer who has a lot more tougher fights than her. But, from what Julaton showed at Tachi, the Team was exactly right. Ana may have only 6 professional fights but she showed tonight she indeed was ready for the big time. Unfortunately, she came up on the short end of the stick.
