Joepher "El Gwapito" Montaño Drops, Stops Shiva, Becomes The New UBO Titlist in Highland Show in Thailand By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Tue, 08 Oct 2024  BANGKOK, Thailand — Displaying excellent physical conditioning, speed, skills, and power, Filipino 147-pounder Joepher "El Gwapito" Montaño of Bacolod, Negros Occidental, shined bright in winning by TKO the UBO Welterweight Continental Belt at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, advancing his promising boxing career. The hard-hitting Montaño (19-5-2, 17 KOs) proved to possess superior boxing skills to the one owned by his opponent, 29-year-old Shiva Thakran (19-6-1, 10 KOs) of Gurgaon, India, stopping him in five rounds of exciting action. Montaño, 28, of the FCC Stable, moved confidently on top of the square ring, throwing his combinations at the tall Shiva, landing with speed and potency while continuously putting pressure on the Indian fighter, not giving him a second to think nor regroup. The Pinoy's game plan proved to be an effective and successful one, eventually getting the strong Shiva down, sitting on his arse. Down there, exhausted and beaten up, Shiva could do nothing else but to listen to the count of veteran referee Worawuth Duankhao. Assisted by coach Ryan Willis in his corner, this was a remarkable win for "El Gwapito." It was also Joepher Montano's 5th consecutive knockout win. With the win, the Filipino is now the UBO Continental Welterweight Champion. Billed as "FCC 7: Double Impact 2," the exciting event was promoted by Montaño's promotion company Dubai's FCC Fight Club Championship in association with Highland Boxing Promotions.
