For the early part of the 19th century, his mighty quill told of the champions of England like Tom Cribb, Bill Richmond, Tom Molyneaux, John Broughton and all the great bare-knuckle pugilists. His words still fascinate boxing aficionados as it once did for The Fancy and mere mortals who appreciate a fair fight. My beloved father, the late Hermie Rivera, used to say, “We owe a debt of gratitude to Pierce Egan. His descriptions of a well-placed blow, its intent, impact and aftermath still excite. You will find the heart of London in his works—Boxiana and Life in London. In many ways, boxing has become a metaphor for someone like me. And I have to thank Mr. Egan for that.”  On behalf of all your fans and disciples of the Sweet Science of Bruising…we offer you our thanks.
