FIDE Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca of Panabo City and Allan Diez of Davao City will both see action in the 21st Bangkok Chess Club Open 2024 on April 13 to 20 in Bangkok.
“It is one of the biggest tournaments in Asia,” said Diez, who is ranked 101 in the tournament.
Arca, who is rated no. 51, recently topped the blitz event, a side event of the Fide World Youth Chess Championship being held at the Pala Dean Martin Centro Congressi.
There will be a total of 16 Grand Masters playing in Bangkok.
Three are coming from the Philippines – GM John Paul Gomez, GM Darwin Laylo and GM Rogelio Antonio Jr.
"Aside from the GMs, there will also be International Masters and Fide Masters seeing action," said Diez, an engineer.
The rest of those who are based from Luzon and Visayas are IM Daniel Quizon, IM Paolo Bersamina, IM Jan Emmanuel Garcia, IM Michael Concio Jr., FM Christian GK Arca, IM Angelo Young, WGM Janelle Mae Frayna, CM Ivan Travis Cu, Ruelle Canino, Oscar Joseph Cantela, WFM Shania Mae Mendoza, WIM Marie Antoinette San Diego, WIM Kylen Joy Mordido, WIM Bernadette Galas, Arvie Lozano and WFM Cherry Ann Mejia.
“Gian and I will take the same flights via PAL on April 11 from Davao to Cebu, then Cebu to Bangkok,” said Diez.
