MELVIN “Gringo” Jerusalem is again the new WBC World minimumweight champion after he beat Yudai Shigeoka via a split decision tonight, March 31 at the International Conference in Nagoya.
The 30-year-old Jerusalem, who was rated no. 6 by the WBC, got the nod of two judges Jae Bong Kim of South Korea and Barry Lindenman of USA with identical scores of 114-112.
Shigeoka, however, got the nod of judge Malcom Bulner of Australia, 114-113.
Referee Steve St. Germain of Canada was third man of the ring.
Jerusalem is with Coach Michael Domingo, manager Marivic Matsuura and promoter JC Manangquil.
He is a former World Boxing Organization world minimumweight champion when he stopped Masataka Taniguchi in the 2nd round last January 6, 2023 at the EDION Arena in Osaka.
But Jerusalem lost the crown in his first title-defense to undefeated American Oscar Collazo by a retirement in the 7th round last May 27 at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, USA.
