TAKUMA INOUE STOPS JERWIN ANCAJAS IN 9

PhilBoxing.com

Jerwin Ancajas of the Philippines failed to wrest Japanese Takuma Inoue's WBA bantamweight belt after Inoue connected with a brutal body shot to the liver sending Ancajas to he canvas for good in the 9th round that abruptly ended the back and forth contest Saturday night in Tokyo, Japan. Inoue thus successfully defended the belt he won last April from Liborio Solis.

The fight started with both fighters feeling each other out with Inoue trying to counter as Ancajas was trying to find his range. It was a tactical fight in the early going but shifted to a brawl starting in the middle of the 4th round when Ancajas forced the issue by going inside at Inoue pushing the wily Japanese all over the ring. It became a phone booth fight in the next couple of rounds with both fighters connecting although Ancajas came out slightly ahead from the skirmish.

In the 6th round, Ancajas reverted to box with neither fighter clearly controlling the fight. The action picked up again in the 8th and 9th rounds when, in the middle of a heated exchange in the first minute of the 9th round, Inoue connected with a lethal right to the liver of Ancajas sending the Filipino the canvas grimacing in pain unable to beat the count of Referee Mark Nelson.

After 8 rounds, judges Luigi Boscarelli had it 78-74, Byung Moo Kim 78-74 and Alex Levin 77-75 all in favor of Takuma Inoue.

Kosei Tanaka became a 4-division world champion Saturday night in Japan.

In the world title fights in the same card, Kosei Tanaka of Japan won the vacant WBO super flyweight title by defeating via unanimous decision Christian Bacasegua of Mexico over 12 rounds.

Junto Nakatani wrested Alexandro's Santiago's WBC bantamweight belt to become a 3-division world champion.

Junto Nakatani defeated Alexandro Santiago by 6th round TKO to capture Santiago's WBC bantamweight title.
