Panamanian Manuel Landero, true friend of the WBA and world boxing, dies

Panamanian boxing mourns the death of one of its most illustrious and oldest members, Manuel Landero, at the age of 98.
Landero was born on June 17, 1925 and was a resident of David, Chiriquí, he was a great member of Panamanian and world boxing as well as a friendly and kind character.
He was a servant of the state in various institutions and ministries at various professional stages.
Landero had been a member of the WBA since 1967 when he joined the officers' committee and eventually ended up as a supervisor in world title fights.
It was Manuel Landero who nominated Gilberto Mendoza Padre as president of the WBA and had carried out extensive lobbying to convince other conventional members to win that election in 1982.
